Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

mental abuse on son

My son's mother fills his head with ideas to make him hate me. I constantly have to deal with her telling him that I am doing things that I am not. She makes him say that I am doing drugs, tells him I am taking him away from her, tells him she has to go to court for that, etc. What can I do about this?

Re: mental abuse on son

Unfortunately, this is not uncommon, and it is a hard problem to solve. Usually, a court will order a parent not to demean the other parent, but if that doesn't work (and often it doesn't) the only solution is to change custody, which is very difficult based only on this.

I would advise you to see an attorney and lay out exactly what is happening, and what your proof is that shows: (1) what the mother is saying and doing; and (2) that it is harmful enough to your son to justify a change of custody.

This is truly a lousy situation, and one that too many people wind up having to deal with after divorce.

Good luck!
