Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
Parents responsibility of supporting adult children
We have a 25 yr. old son, he lives in his own apartment with his girlfriend and their 2 children. My husband got a loan, in his name, for a car, also in his name, for our son. He has failed to make payments and has told us we have nothing he signed that satates he would make the payment, This is true, mistake on our part. He has also told us that any judge in the country will tell us that it is our responsibility to help our adult children when they are having a hard time. We have done this many times, loaned him money, paid car insurance for over a year, made partial rent payments. We thought at the age of 18 and no longer in school that he was on his own and we were not responsible for him legally. The son makes more money than his father and he still expects us to provide for him. When does it stop legally?

there is no specific provision regarding the same. It the responsibility of the father to maintain the dependents i.e., who are unable to maintan themsleves or who have no means at all to maintain themselves. In your case you stated that your son is capable to maintain himself. Hence you are not liable to maintain you son except under cordial relation.
