Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Paternity protection of possible Father

I live In TN.

I was in a relationship out of wedlock 17 yrs ago.

A girl called from IN stating she was my 16yr old daughter.

Her mother was dating several men at the time, including me.She wants me to do a paternity test to see, if I am her father. If she is mine I would also like to know.

However, I must protect myself from 16 yrs of back chid support. The mother and daughter are saying they do not want any back child support.

What can I do, to find out without opening myself up to liability?

Re: Paternity protection of possible Father

If you voluntarily take a paternity test without a court action pending, until there is a court case filed, there is nothing that a person can base a support action on. Indiana law maximises past due support to the filing date plus 2 years. The law does not recognize any agreement to forego support.
