Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Post secondary education exp vs child support

Divorced in IN in 1998. I pay child support of $143 a week on 18 yr old daughter who lives in AZ with her mother. She graduates high school on May 24 and starts college at AZU May 27 living on campus; does not plan to return home to live during college years. I would like to reduce or stop child support and pay my portion of college expenses directly to daughter. Would an IN attorney have to handle this and is this something that can be done? thanks

Re: Post secondary education exp vs child support

Since you still live in Indiana and the divorce took place here, you need to do this in Indiana. Child support will be reduced. payment will be up to the court.

If the child support order came from an Indiana court then an Indiana attorney would have to handle the matter. If it is an Arizona child support order, then you need an Arizona attorney.

Since I practice only in Indiana, I can only tell you that this is something that can be done under Indiana law.
