Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Proving physical and mental abuse

I know this grandmother that is trying to build evidence against her daughter because her daughter is abusing her children. The grandmother is doing this so she can prove her daughter to be unfit. They live in the same house. They both live rent free. Can the grandmother put up security cameras in the house? Can she follow her daughter around and secretly tape her without her knowledge? What are the limitations? Would the evidence be admissable in court and what other steps could she take to further prove the abuse? Can the grandmother get in trouble for letting the abuse go on for so long without notifying anyone? Thank you.

Re: Proving physical and mental abuse

Indiana law requires that anyone with knowledge of child abuse report the abuse to the authorities. In the case you describe both the grandmother and the mother could be in trouble - one for failing to report and the other for the abuse. If you are aware of the situation also, you probably have a duty to report the situation to the authorities.
