This issue should have been resolved during the divorce, not after. You are completely at his mercy. You can ask him to try to refinance the mortgage or ask him to sell the house. You can write to the mortgage company and ask them to release you from the mortgage, but I doubt that they will.

If you had an attorney for the divorce you should ask the attorney why this issue was not taken care of as part of the divorce. Perhaps he can modify the decree by agreement, or by Motion and obtain an order requiring your ex to refinance or sell the house within a certain time period.
