Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Sign Rights Away

There is a possibility of a child being mine and she is one month pregnant. I want to sign over rights. Can I do that? How do i find the form? Does she have to agree to let me do that? I know that if I do this, I can not see the child again, but do i still have to pay support? If I refuse to sign the birth certificate, does she have to pay for a paternitity test?

Re: Sign Rights Away

This is the biggest myth out there. You can not sign your rights away unless there will be an adoption.

You will have to pay support and possibly part of the costs of the pregnancy. If you dont sign the paternity affidavit she can seek paternity in the courts, quite posssibly at your expense. If you do not think that you are the father, you should seek the DNA tests. They are under $500 and is far less than paying child support for a child who is not yours.
