Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
signing off parental rights
My daughter is 15 years old and I have not had any type of visitation since she was about one year old, I am behind on my support but I have paid over six thousand dollars in the last three years including tax refunds. I would have liked to see her but the mother would not allow it. I lost my jpb and have not been able to pay my support since september. I did just recently have my taxes prepared and handed over another $626. I am still 9,000 behind and feel this is a complete losing battle. I would like to sign off on my rights and would like to know if this would help me out at all.

Re: signing off parental rights
You can not sign off on your parental rights. However, if there is a Petition for Adoption, you can consent to the adoption, and if the adoption is approved, you will no longer have rights or ongoing obligations.
You do have grounds to lower the support if you have lost your job and you did not cause the loss.
