Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

My sister in law passed away last June. She has a 16 year old daughter who now lives with her dad. He is verbally abusive and she hates living with him, on top of grieving for her mother, she is miserable. In Indiana does she have any legal choices. My husband and I, as well as my husband's other sister and her husband would love to have her live with either of us, but we don't know if that's really possible.

It is not her decision. You can file a petition requesting custody, but it is an uphill battle. If the verbal abuse is so bad that it is permanently harming her, his actions could be reported to child protective services. You would want to make sure that you are getting the straight story about the statements before doing that.
