Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

My sister is pregnant and cannot care for the baby and she wants to sign it over to me. My question is, can me and my husband sign the birth certificate at the hospital?

No. You must go through the formal adoption process. There are pros and cons to an in-family adoption which should be weighed very carefully. Please go see an attorney who deals extensively with adoptions in your area for more specific information. Good luck.

I agree with Jay. You need to go through a formal adoption process or guardianship process.

You also did not mention anything about the father, who also has some rights that have ot be addressed.
