Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

My son is currently seperated from his wife and they are in the process of beginning divorce proceedings. He is needing to get a better car but is it safe for him to buy it prior to the divorce becoming final? We have already purchased a car for them when they had theirs repossed and she got it and he got the one that is really not safe for the amount of miles he is driving. We do not want him to purchase a better car and her to walk off with it in the divorce while he makes the payments. Please advise.

Wait until papers have been filed before buying him a car. Make sure that there is a paper trail showing that it is a gift from you to him.
