If my spouse files for divorce and I left the marraige because he is an abusive alcoholic, is there a way that I can make him pay for my lawyer?

You can request the court order him to pay your lawyer fees. It will have nothing to with his alcoholism, only relative ability to pay fees.

Attorneys fees are based on either ability to pay, or contempt once an order is entered and disobeyed. If you are not working and he is, he has the ability to pay and you can get an order requiring that he pay.
