Stopping a divorce

my wife had filed for divorce and i've been served with the papers.now she wants to cancell it.what is the procedure and do i still need a lawyer because the papers have been filed.i did not see a lawyer yet.what is the process now that the papers have been filed? should i still retain the services of an attorney in case she changes her mind again?

Generally, a motion to dismiss is filed with the court where the case was filed. However, most attorneys recommend that the case merely continue to remain on file as an inactive matter until the parties actually have time to figure out whether a reconciliation will work out. Occasionally the court requires that both parties sign a stipulation of dismissal to be filed. Usually a court will let the file remain in its system for 6 months before attempting to determine what your status is.
