Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

can u get child support 15 yrs later

I have never asked or received child support for my oldest son. His father has not inquired about our son nor tried to contact him. I have been told that his other children receive money from the state of Illinois each month in the form of support and he has not tried to see them or be a part of their lives. I want to know can I file a claim for my son and get the back pay without having this man in our lives. I live in Indiana and my sons fathers last known address is in Chicago. I have no current information for him. Where do I start and is this possible after all this time.

It is possible that you can receive most of the support that is due. You need to contact an attorney as the law is a bit complicated.

Re: can u get child support 15 yrs later

Our office would track him down with our Private Investigator, then we would file a Petition for Child Support, and have him served. Then I would file a motion to not allow visitation on account of abandonment. So the answer to your question is yes, you can get back support, and prevent him from seeing the child. If you would like to discuss your case further, please contact our firm to speak with an attorney.
