Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Unmarried tenants in common/child custody

We are unmarried with a seven-month old child, and he put $30,000 down on a house. I have since written him a check for $15,000 so that we each put $15,000 into the downpayment. We are currently living in. After a year and a half, I am moving out because of a verbally abusive situation with me and my other children and his being gone all the time. He will not pay me my $15,000 back, and says he will try to take our baby. What should I do?

Re: Unmarried tenants in common/child custody

I hope that you take this in the right way, but you need to get an attorney. First, to establish paternaity and then to deal with the money you put into the house. As for his taking the child, right now he has no rights and even if he did he needs to prove that the child is better with him than you. That sounds unlikely. Where are you in Indiana?
