Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
Will the father of the child actually get any visitation rights to see her?
My baby's father hasn't had any contact from me since I was 4 months pregnant. Now my baby is almost five months old and I contacted him to let him know that he had a daughter. Last weekend I drove down to his house (across the state line) and let him and his family see my daughter. Know he is threatening to take me to court because I won't drive down there every weekend. I just want to know if there is any chance that he will get any visitation right's with my daughter.

Re: Will the father of the child actually get any visitation rights to see her?
He most likely will receive visitation rights from the Court, enforceable through the Courts. You started this by bringing the child to his attention, and it will be difficult for you to change this decision now. However, he will most likely not be able to compel you to deliver the child to him if he resides out of state and the Court will have a difficult time determining what contact he should have due to your child's age and the distance involved between the parents' homes. Due to the child's age the parenting time guidelines suggest more frequent and short term visits between a parent and the child, rather than extended visits on alternate weekends.
