Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

Grounds for appeals

I filed a modidification for child support and two days later filed a contempt order against my ex-husband. In return, a month later, my ex filed modification as well. I fired one attorney and hired another because I couldn't get in fornt of a judge. Six months had passed. My new lawyer said my orders had been dismissed. So I had to go in front of the judge only on my ex's modification of child support. I have now found out that my contempt order was never dismissed. I lost in court against my ex - because he lied about his income. (He's self employeed) The judge's ruling even dismissed some of my items he was in contempt about. How does that happen? The order, from the judge was prepared by the opposing counsel and then signed by the judge. Is that legal and do I have grounds for an appeal. What laws, if any have been broken?
