How long do I legally have to hold someones private property that was left at my residents by an ex that did not live with me or pay rent

In order to be safe, you should send a letter to the ex by registered or certified mail, advising them of your intention to dispose of the property. If you don't hear from them by the cut off date in the letter, you can dispose of the property. But why not just call the ex and ask him/her to just remove the property?
