Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

To marry or not

I'm currently in the middle of a law suit for a vehicle accident I was involved in. Where the other party is suing me for above and beyond my insurance payout limit. If I get married before the suit is resolved, and I end up with monies I have to pay out, will my new wife also be responsible for this new debt, and could she lose her house and property if the amount ended up being very substantial.

Should we wait to get married until this law suit is completely resolved.

This is more a personal assessment than a legal one. I think it would be wrong to enter into a marriage with a new bride and a debt load that would be seriously harmful to your relationship. Stats say that money problems are one of the leading reasons for divorce.

While she would have no liability, assuming she's not a part of the litigation, YOUR (not hers) assets would be something the other side would go after, including a house (at least your part of the home, which, if in both your names, would be 50%). So, I think wisdom here would suggest waiting. I think it would be fairer to her.

Again, this is not so much legal as personal.
