Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

I have a question regarding the sale of personal property. My cousin owes me money for tools that I helped him purchase, a cell phone, gas, and destruction of my property by his dog. He left a stereo system here in my home and he has written me a letter stating that i can keep the stereo. He has agreed to pay me several times and then has renigged on it several times. I have a letter, voicemail, and text messages stating that he owes me the money and the several times that he would pay me but never has. The letter also states that Ican keep the property. I want to know if I can sell the stereo, to get the money back that he owes me?

If he told you the stereo was yours to keep, you can do whatever you want to with it, including selling it.
