Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

I have shared a house with another individual for 18 years. We own a house, two cars, investments, and various other material items we purchased together. The house, cars, and some investments are in both of our names. We are not married nor in a civil union. My question is this, I am seriously considering ending this relationship and as I don't believe it will be an amicable break, should I hire an attorney to assist with dividing the assets and if so, what type of attorney? Thank you in advance for your help with this question.

Yes, BEFORE you start breaking up, you should seek consultation with a family law attorney to see what rights you may have.
