Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

small clams court pain

I have been going through small claims court in Lebanon, Indiana over a vehicle that I was buying. When the vehicle started acting up I took it back to get the timing chain fixed, as that is what they told me was wrong with it. A few days later they called me and told me they put in the timing chain and that my engine was bad, and that I needed a new one. I told them I did not have that much money and left them the vehicle and quit paying for it. They decided to take me to small claims court. I never payed when it went to court because I felt I was sold a bad vehicle. They had me driving 30 milese each month to court for this vehicle for almost two years. When I would miss court they would issue a warrant for my arrest and I would have to pay a bond and the bond would go to the auto sales place. My question is, is that even legal for them to issues a warrant for my arrest over small claims court when they have already made it a judgement against me?

Yes. They are now seeking information about your assets. If you do not show up in court, a warrant will be issued until you come to court and answer questions about your assets and income.

Yes. When a court orders you to appear, you must appear or be held in contempt.
