Legal Question in Immigration Law in Indiana

I got married to the US citizen and few months after our marriage I received a green card. I would like to know how long do I have to wait before I will be eligible to apply for US citizenship myself.

If you remain married and living with your spouse, it's two years and nine months assuming you've lived in the jurisdiction of the office where you'll apply for the past three months. If you are no longer married and living with your spouse, you'd have to wait for four years and nine months. This also assumes you've not been gone from the U.S. for half the time since you got permanent residence and haven't had departures of more than six months at a time. If you've traveled too much or are deportable, then citizenship wouldn't be appropriate at this time.

The above is general information. It is not legal advice and doesn't create an attorney client relationship. For further information, contact me at [email protected] or 818 609 1953.
