Legal Question in Insurance Law in Indiana
My ex husband and I have in our divorce decree that he is reliable to cover my 8 year old daughters health insurance. I am responsible for the first $500 dollars in medical bills and deductibles. My ex husband just informed me that his insurance will not let him claim my daughter anymore because she does not live with him. He sees her every other weekend but she lives with me and I am her main provider. He told me that it is a new law now that whomever the child lives with has to carry insurance on the child. Can you please tell me if this is true? We live in Indiana.

Without seeing the insurance policy language it is difficult to say whether the situation is valid. However, it is possible that it is true. If it is correct, you might need to make a decision as to whether your daughter is covered or not, depending on who she lives with. I would suggest that you consult with a family law attorney with respect to this question.
