Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Indiana
Hello, I'm a comic book creator who is researching the copyright status of defunct comic book companies' properties. One in particular I'm looking at is the status of Atlas Seaboard comics which published from 1964-1965. The work does not appear to be registered at the copyright office, but the comics themselves have a valid copyright notice. Also, no one has used these characters since the company shut down. Would these comics be public domain or copyright protected ?

If published in 1964 or 1965 with a copyright notice, the copyright will expire 95 years after the publication date. Take a look at this helpful table re: Copyright Term and the Public Domain. http://www.copyright.cornell.edu/resources/publicdomain.cfm
