Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana
Armed Robbery victim and partenership
I am a victim of a violent armed robbery in ''my'' place of business. The business was something I have worked on for years, the contacts are purely mine, but my long term boyfriend got the loan in his name for the business. The inventory all came in my name. I managed the shop and through a verbal agreement and ''committed'' relationship I agreed to put in hours as my end of the investment. Therefore, I worked always more than 40 hours a week for the past year and a half but made a salary of $900 a month. After the robbery, he hired other people to work in the shop and decided to end our relationship. I have been left with no money, no job, no paycheck, no unemployment, and no home. Mainly, because of the armed robbery and I didn't just go right back to work due to not feeling safe or fully recovered yet. Do I have any rights in this situation? The robbery and him ending the relationship was in only a 3 week period.

Re: Armed Robbery victim and partenership
I see three issues. I can help your with the overtime pay issue if you call me at 317-955-9500. Whether you are entitled to overtime pay will likely depend on whether or not you are an "exempt" employee. Contact a business/ partnership lawyer to see if your participation in the business made you a partner with partner rights. Contact a family lawyer to see if your committed relationship gave you participatory rights.
