Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana

employee contract

Back in 1998 after working for the same trucking company for 20 years I signed an employee contract. I recently quit my job because of personal reasons. Now I am trying to get another job as a service manager but am afraid that the company will sue me. The contract basicly says that I cannot work with another trucking company within 75 miles of the company for 1 year. Should I have to move to get another job? Is this contract actually legal and binding and since it has been so long since I signed it is it still legal?

Re: employee contract

Whether the non-compete can be enforced depends, primarily, on its terms (are they reasonable), what state's law applies, and your particular circumstances (i.e, do the personal reasons which caused you to leave constitute a breach of contract that release you from the non-compete).
