Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana

Our employee handbook at the current employer (X) states that 'It is almost always a conflict of interest for a covered party (employee) to work simultaneously for a competitor, customer or supplier.

I am trying to establish a project management and data analytics consulting company (Y) where the core competency is not at all related with my current employer's insurance products or service. Is this act considered to be within the context of conflict of interest while attracting a. employer X's existing customer b. X's prospects."

Labor policies/handbooks such as the one you are talking about are often difficult to decipher. Most attorneys are not going to answer such a question online without seeing the hand book itself. Find a lawyer nearby, pay the consultation fee, and have peace of mind about it. Or, you can simply go to your employer and tell them what you're doing and ask them. Perhaps you could find a way to make your company benefit them. Sometimes, these are things that can help a small business survive. Of course, it could be that if they knew you had another business, they might frown on that. Some companies do not want their employees holding other jobs (or owning other companies).
