Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana

Not hiring a person after an employer originally agreed to.

I was fired from my original job in May of 2001. It was not based upon my performance. I began another job the following June, and worked for that employer until November of 2001. I was not happy working for them so I began looking for another job. I found one. The person who said he would hire me had previously worked for my original employer. He told me to go ahead and turn in my notice for my present job at the time. I did so, then I never heard from him about starting my new job.

He never even returned my calls. He found out why I was previously fired from my original job. Now I am out of work because of this, and have not been able to find another job. Do I have a case?

Re: Not hiring a person after an employer originally agreed to.

Whether or not you have a claim against the person who induced you to leave your current job depends (primarily)on whether or not the person did so without any real intent to employ you. Whether or not you have a claim against your original employer depends (primarily) on whether or not they intentionally interfered with your prospective employment buy giving false information to the prospective employer. It would be important to know the circumstances under which you left the original employment.
