Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana

long hair at the workplace

I have been working for a telecommunications company for almost 1 year and am doing a very good job for them. The owner/supervisor/technician, told me that I had to cut my hair, (which is always very clean, neat and out of my face). The owner/supervisor/technician is a person with longer hair than mine. This person told me that I was giving them a 2 week notice for my resignation for not cutting my hair, but I will not quit. I then was told that I had 2 weeks to make up my mind. Which I replied, ''ok, I will let you know in 1 week and 6 days''. This person then changed thier mind and told me that I have 2 weeks left to work and at the end of that 2 weeks, I was to turn in all my company tools, shirts....ect and that I would be fired. Is it legal for my employer to fire me because I will not cut my hair? The handbook says nothing about it.
