Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana

personal injury claim @ work and my responsiblity to help Company attorney

an attorney hired by the company i currently work for (...and have worked for for many years) has contacted me about a personal injury case brought by a contractor employee from years ago. the contractor claims he was exposed to chemicals @ a pham plant my current employer use to own and which i use to work. i still work for the company who use to own the plant

i have spoken to our company contract attorney on the phone.

what rights and responsiblilities do i have? can i be penalized by my company for not cooperating with the attorney. the area in question i have knowledge of but not of the individual sueing or the company this party worked for so her questioning me has become a waste of time.

if i did not still work for this company being sued i would just tell the attorney flat out NO.

Not sure why you'd resent being questioned by the company lawyer on a case unrelated to you. You do realize that if you refused, the attorney would simply subpoena you, and you'd still have to answer the questions, only this time, in a deposition, under oath? And if you did that, absent a union, the company could fire you for being uncooperative?

It's the lawyer's job to find out facts in order to defend his or her client, in this case, the company that wants to stay in business and pay your wages. Why wouldn't you want to help out the company to stay in business and not take a big hit that might impact your wages?
