Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana
In the state of Indiana, The county of Monroe. If summoned for Jury duty between the hours of 8am to 5pm. Am I required to attend work? The hours of my workplace are from 4pm to midnight, and although they are allowing me the time between 4pm-5pm without repercussion, they have told me I am required to attend work for the remainder of my shift. This in turn will leave me incredibly sleep deprived, as this will be the case for several days in a row. Am I required to attend my work-shift, or does state law offer any recourse.

I suggest that you contact the court administrator and explain the situation. He or she may contact your employer and strighte them out. If not, you may need to contact the Indiana Attorney General. However, form a practical standpoint, I would think that you would not be selected once the attorneys learned of your situation and that the sleep deprivation might cause you to be unable to stay alert and be fair to both sides.
Sounds like a violation of work place safety laws. I suggest you contact Indiana Occupational Safety & Health at 317-232-2655.
