Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana

Unpaid standby

Can my employer require me to carry a pager without pay? I may have to carry one without any pay, and must respond within 2 hours. I think this violates my rights, I can't travel, have a beer or do anything which may cause me not to be able to report to work without any compensation. Thank you for your help.

Re: Unpaid standby

Yes. You can always quit if you don't like it. If you refuse to wear a pager, you can be fired for insubordination.
