Wrongful Termination??
I am a former hotel general manager who was terminated less than a week ago. I signed a wage sheet stating the maximun and the minimun hourly wages we could hire employees in at. When I took over I noticed that a front desk agent was coded to payroll as a housekeeper at almost a dollar less. I asked the employee about it and brought it to the attention of my district manager. I quickly raised the pay rate of the young lady and informed my RDO that she should receive backpay from their mistakes. We sent in the correct paperwork and he signed and approved it. The district manager informed the young woman that she would receive compensation on her next check but it was not there. Week after week, no backpay. Well, soon after the RDO was let go and I informed the new RDO, she told me we do not bargain with employees. I kept pushing the subject and told the employee she may want to contact human resources, etc. She did and 2 days later I was terminated for being a threat to the company. My district manager even informed me that my agm told her that I was threatning the district manager's life and told her that I was going to vandalize her car! She even stated she had police watching me! Is this right?

Re: Wrongful Termination??
What happened to you sounds very unfair. Whether or not it is unlawful probably depends on whether or not: (i) it was discriminatory bias which resulted in her being shorted pay; and (ii) either you or she complained about discriminatory bias. If the answer to both questions is yes, you may have an "associational" claim under Title VII. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at 317-955-9500.
