Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Indiana

Landlord and Subletter Against Renter

My wife and I are renting a house from our landlord for one year, and my wife and I agreed to sublett a person for 3 months. The person that is subletting the house now got angry and threatened to kill my wife and I, so we filed a complaint with the police on intimidation charges. We told our land lord about the situation and about how she is constently smoking weed in the house, and she told my wife and I(the lessee's)to deal with it, there is nothing she could do about it and refuses to evict her. Our landlord said, ''Your safety is none of my concern all I want is my money every month''. My wife and I fear for our life and dont know what to do to get the subletter out since our landlord refuses to evict her. The subletter has about two months left till her rent is up, but anything can happen in two months. What can my wife and I do to get this crazy person out of the house? Our landlord says nothing just suck it up, but I know that with this person anything could happen. I guess my question is, if my landlord won't kick her out how do I go about getting her out of the house. Like I said we already filed a complaint with the police, but the landlord says its not good enough. Thanks

I need to see your lease w/subtenant if any. If not yopu may still be able to evict as primary tenant. I've been a LL for 26 years.

Re: Landlord and Subletter Against Renter

You definitely have rights against this tenant "from hell" and/or against the landlord at issue. You may be entitled to quick, injunctive relief from the court in removing her from the premises promptly, based on the facts given so far. You may also have specific remedies under your existing lease. If you would like prompt, affordable legal assistance in this unfortunate and potentially "life threatening" situation, contact us today for a free phone consultation.
