Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Indiana

I currently rent a duplex (In indiana) and haven't had a lease for almost 5 years. My original landlord sold the property 6 monthes after I moved in. My lease remained in effect for another 6 months after the new landlord took ownership. My new landlord never drew up a new lease after the original expired, so I have been paying month to month for the past 4 1/2 years -no lease. I am concerned that my landlord is going to hassle me about returning my security deposit, because I didn't originally pay it to him. What are his legal obligations? Is he required to return my security deposit? I just want to be prepared.

He assumed that obligation when he took over your lease. In other wrods, assuming that there is no damage beyond normal wear and tear he will ahve to pay your deposit back.
