Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Indiana
I turned my rent (cash) in on January 3, 2010. I put the money inside an envelope and stuck the envelope in the drop box. Yesterday I received a letter from my landlord stating that I have not paid my rent.
What do I do? Do I have any rights?
I explained to them that I did in fact pay for this month's rent and they told me I have to pay it again.
What do I do?

Unfortunately mailing and leaving cash is usually at the senders own risk. While there is no reason to doubt that you paid this way, there is no telling how or where the money may have been taken and thus never reached your landlord. You should always pay by cash in a face to face transaction and ask for a receipt. A good lawyer or investigator who works with a lawyer may be able to help ferret out the truly guilty party. Depending on how much your rent is, that expense may be your next step and a worthwhile investment.
