Legal Question in Military Law in Indiana

Breaking a Navy enlistment contract

I signed up a few weeks ago to join the Navy. During the time since then, I have rethought my descision, and I am not sure if I really want to go through with this at this time.

I am a DEPer, and I'm set to leave on January 23rd. I would like to know, is there any way I can get out of my contract, aside from doing illegal drugs (which I refuse to do)?

Please help. I no longer have any desire to fulfill this contract, but I do not want my record to be permanently stained.

Re: Breaking a Navy enlistment contract

While there are ways to get out of the contract, the real question is whether you should get out. You made a commitment. Before you signed those papers and took that oath, you had time to consider the consequences and the importance of what you are doing.

Getting out may adversely affect your chance to serve in the future if your plans change later on. Please give this matter a great deal of thought before you decide to try to avoid your commitment. The decision you make will likely affect your future.
