Yes, you may pursue a civil case against the person who hit you. You should contact a personal injury lawyer in your community to discuss this option.
Legally, of course. You say this injury resulted from "domestic violence." If a parent or other relative injured you, how could you recover? Insurance only covers negligent acts. When someone hits you, it is an intentional act. That means it is not covered by insurance. If an injury is not covered by insurance, it will be very difficult to find an attorney because the attorney would have no idea whether he would ever get paid. A judgment can be discharged in bankruptcy or be paid through wage garnishment. No attorney could afford to be paid in that fashion.
What you can do is to make a police report and seek that criminal charges be filed. That said, the police and the courts are almost always the worst way to resolve family disputes unless you sincerely believe you may harmed in the future.
Seek the counsel of a local attorney, providing all of the facts. Good luck.
