12 Year old wrecks scooter, who pays?

My 12 year old son was given permission to ride a motor scooter that was owned by a 15 year old boy. (The 15 year old boy is the one who gave permission and no adults knew of the situation.) The 12 year old had a wreck on the scooter and and caused about $250.00 worth of damage. (parts and labor) My question is: Who is legally responsible for the repairs to the scooter. The 12 year old or the 15 year old. Thanks.

That is a good question. Perhaps you should agree to split the bill to avoid unneccessary legal fees and avoid bad will. You should be thankful no one was hurt. Mary
