Legal Question in Personal Injury in Indiana

I caused a fender bender two years ago. I had insurance, which covered my damage. I assumed that it also covered the other person's damage. Today, I received a summons for a personal injury in the accident I am only now learning about. No court date or dollar amount is listed on the summons. Why is this? What should I do next?

Deliver the summons to your insurance company. They will hire an attorney who will represent you.

As already indicated, get the summons to your agent IMMEDIATELY. You do not want to be defaulted. You only have a limited amount of time to respond to the complain (lawsuit). Also, get something in writing from your agent showing delivery of the summons. Make it up yourself, if necessary. It doesn't have to be complicated. Just a note that states you delivered a summons, recital of the caption, the date you gave the summons to the agent, and his or her signature. This is in case the agent inadvertently "forgets" to notify the insurance company, and later says "Golly-gee-whiz, he never said a word to me about it. I never saw a summons." It has happened. (Just had a case with a similar scenario.)
