Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

There are 4 houses on my side of the block. My house is located on the East corner lot and is on the end of a septic line running to the main sewer. This is a common line of which all 4 houses tie their septic into. The house on the West corner lot has a large tree of which then roots have grown into the septic line. When the septic backs up into my basement, I pay a plumber to come and auger the line clear. I have done this 4 times now at $150 each. Is ther something I can legally do to remedy this?

There is no clear cut obligation on the part of the owner landowners to keep their lines clear or to contribute unless there was a common agreement signed when the system was installed. The cost of litigation would exceed the small cost of the cleaning. Wouldn't it be a better idea to invite your neighbors over for a cookout to discuss the problem and see if you can all work this out over a beer?
