Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

So 4 years ago I purchased a house. Come to find out the 1/2 lot next to me is still owned by the couple that owned the property two people ago. They have since passed away and I constantly get tax bills for them. See we share the same address since it all used to be part of one deed at one point. For me to acquire the land, the county wants me to buy it at auction. I am not willing to spend the amount to buy it because of back taxes. It is a tiny strip of land that is unbuildable and will never be bought at auction. I maintain it and keep it nice and neat as if it were part of my yard. Is there anything I can do? It's not worth hiring a lawyer because I could just buy it at auction at that point. Any advice is helpful! Thank you,

NR
