after a attorney agrees to represent you in a lawsuit to help collect my money, what is a average amount of time expected in getting the papers filed in court and the process going, how do you know if the attorney is not working fast enough and should be replaced.

There is no average amount of time. Every case is fact specific. In the future, ask the attorney before you hire him or her what kind of time frame is expected.
