Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

Breaking a lease

I am in the process of buying a townhouse. I just

found out that the apartment complex I live in

requires a 60 day written notice as well as a 2 month

rent fee to break my lease. I thought that by law when

you buy a property you have to be released from your

lease without such a penalty. Is that true?

Re: Breaking a lease

I'm sorry. There is no such law. Since you have a written lease it is the law in your case. What it requires has been known to you since you signed it. Only when you don't have a written lease does the law specify the terms to terminate a tenancy - 30 days notice.
