Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana
I have a friend who is being threatened by a previous landlord. She received her security deposit back months late with a third removed for carpet cleaning, but this isn't the real problem. She posted an anonymous review of the apartment online, and the following day received several harassing phone calls from the landlord threatening to sue her for being late on the rent for several months during her stay, but told her that if she removed the review, he wouldn't press charges. He is owed no money, she is owed no money, the lease term is over, and she is no longer living there, and actually no longer living in the same state, but she is scared that he could come after her. The rent was due on the 5th, with late charges based on how late. She was never late with her rent, she was never charged any late fees, and the landlord deposited rent checks on the 15th of every month. My question is, does she have anything to be worried about? Is there anything he could legally sue her for under these circumstances?
