Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

I bought a home 11 months ago and at closing was told (in writing) that there was no problem with water in the basement. 2 months later we started getting water in the basement so we had 3 specialists come out and tell us there was major structural damage that was causing the leak. The contractors told us that we had 1 year from the date of purchase to file a small claims lawsuit to have the seller pay to fix the basement. Is this true? If so, is it 1year from closing or 1 year from when our offer on the house was accepted?
