Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana
Indiana. My girlfriend bought her house in 1997. The neighbors had a pre-existing chain link fence, that is approximately 2 ft. inside of what could be considered their property line. My girlfriend has been maintaining the portion of the property between her house and the fence for 13 years. There has been nothing done to '"reclaim" this 2 ft. of property, by the neighbors, during this 13 yr. period of time. Does my girlfriend, now, own this 2 ft strip of property?

Maybe. Send your girlfriend to talk to an attorney about her actual use during the entire period of time. One fact by itself does not win the case.

I agree with Jay. She may have an ownership claim available.
