In any zoning change application, notice must be given to all adjacent owners to be given the opportunity to remonstrate. Check to make sure that you are aware of whatever hearings will be had and you should attend them with your neighbors. In a situation like this, it is highly recommended that you have an attorney to represent your group so that a formal remonstrance is filed. You should also express your concerns to your local elected representative.
This may be obvious to you, but you could also get together with your neighbors and buy the land, thereby making sure that you can do whatever you want with it.
