Landlord help
My landlord is threatening eviction due to a foul odor in hallway they say eminates from my apartment. My witnesses confirm it does not. They also expect me to pay the remainder of my lease. it is my understanding they cannot collect rent from me once they accept my keys. They also claim to have been in my apartment, which is a violation of law, seeing they did not have consent or give me notice and there was no emergency. The smell existed prior to my occupancy and no longer exists since the carpets in the hallway were cleaned. What are my options?

Your question is unclear. First, you state that the landlord is threatening eviction due to a smell that eminates from your apt. Then you say the smell is no longer there since the carpets were clean. Without seeing the lease an opinion can not be given concerning the landlords entry into your apt.
Accepting your keys means nothing unless there has been an eviction or there is a written agreement terminating the lease.
